To get these internet speeds you need to have a certain NBN technology servicing your house. You need to be in a Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) area or certain HFC areas to get these speeds at this stage.
In the next few years Fibre to the Curb areas will have access to these speeds with the installation of the new gigabit distribution point units (DPUs). In real terms that means only about 30% of people can get these internet speeds at the moment.
If you’re in a Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) area you could comfortably get up to 100mbps with this technology. In a Fibre to the Node area the internet speed can be a problematic issue. While NBN would like everyone to have 25mbps, they won’t come out and fix an issue unless the speed is below 12mbps.
